The next generation of nuclear power reactors will be (at least in part) capable of decomposing water molecules thermochemically, i.e., without the need for electrolysis. Hydrogen manufactured in this way, using chemical catalysts, will require less energy, and the reactors will be more efficient owing to their higher-temperature operation. This process has been studied for several years and is described in the technical literature.
